SEO and Its Importance in the Hospitality Industry
In this blog, I’ll explain the importance of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) for hospitality and 4 ways you can improve your website using SEO.
When customers search for hotels in a specific region it is important that your hotel returns on the first page of Google Search results and ideally in the top 3 organic results if the hotel is in that area. To achieve this, you will need to constantly work on optimising your website to be on the top of Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) and to gain more traffic to your website.
Some ways to improve Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) for your website are, Content, Indexing, Onpage / Offpage optimisation and Site Architecture.
CONTENT: Bill Gates once said, “Content is King” and this is still very relevant when it comes down to a website’s performance. Google uses Crawlers also known as “bots” or “Googlebot” to review websites to ensure pages are satisfying and serve the purpose they intend to.
INDEXING KEYWORDS: After Googlebot visits a page, this is indexed to appear in Google Search Results.
ONPAGE / OFF PAGE OPTIMISATION: This includes optimising your page to have links to other pages in the same organisation (Onpage) and links to other relevant businesses (off page). This is also known as link building.
It is easier to add links on your page to other pages on your website but Offpage linking will need more work as you will need to contact other relevant organisations to share a link to your website. Remember this will only work if the information on your website is relevant to the other establishment. A good example would be when you have a page for “Things to Do in Dublin” and within the content, you mention Dublin Zoo and your content is good and satisfying then you can contact Dublin Zoo and ask them to include a link to your website since you have reputable content and potential customers going to the Zoo could be looking for a place to stay. SITE ARCHITECTURE: It is essential that websites have Sitemaps this is one feature Googlebot search for as this helps it to understand the website.

"CONTENT IS KING" - Bill Gates
This is a great beginers guide to SEO Fernanda and I like that you linked it to one of the other blogs from the team and their subject of Backlinks. I think you could have delved a little deeper into keywords when discussing "indexing Keywords" as this is a vital element of SEO. When the bots crawl through your website they then index their findings and your website is in the running to be displayed when relevant. As people search in Google or any search engine they are given the sites that best match their keyword search in order of relevance. The ranking is based on Keywords and all the information you mentioned above. Mentioning Site maps is great as so many websites do not have one. Overall great read!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the informative blog Fernanda, there is great information on the difference between on-page and off-page optimisation. Many believe that all digital marketing is online only and leave it to the "experts". However, you have shown that SEO can be about relationship building offline (off-page optimisation) which can be undertaken by anyone. Effectively it is important to network with other related tourism bodies to gather backlinks and improve rankings on search Engines.
ReplyDeleteFernanda , this is a very informative blog highlighting the key pointers utilising SEO for a website. I love hoe you quoted bill gates " Content is Key " , your blog really emphasis this all the way through from your delivery on this blog. I will certainly be using this as a guide in my workplace when next auditing our website.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great read Fernanda you explain really well what SEO means and the key areas that you need to look at optimise your website content. It is also a very good and simplified explanation of what the search engine does when crawling content on websites and makes it easy to understand the process. I really like your example of what to do for on/off page SEO and your recommendations. It is also good to note that optimising your images on your website is an area that should not be overlooked and should be part of your overall SEO strategy.
