- Compliance with Customer Data regulations and Customer Data Security – Marketers face regulations on customer data breach such as GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) that must be complied with or the business be faced with high legal costs
- Maintaining accountability with customers – if the customer data is not collected and used in the correct manner this can have significant consequences damaging the reputation of the business and losing the trust of the customer.
How to overcome the challenges of using Customer data
- Investment in the right CRM tools maximising the use of your guest data
- Ongoing training of your employees on the use of the CRM tools in place
- Listen to your customers; ask them what their preferences are and give them the option of opting in and out of your activities.
- Train employees on the regulatory and corporate rules regarding the use of customer data.
- Remind customers about the value they receive by sharing their data – by sharing their data customers can avail of special discount offers via email marketing campaigns.

Thanks for this Blog Ailbhe, I like the way you give us ideas on how to overcome the challenges. Ideally hotels should have CRM tools to help them manage customers data although this is not always possible for B&Bs as those tools can be expensive but we should encourage hoteliers to have those tools as it will help them to target past customers. - F, Pinate
ReplyDeleteGreat blog Ailbhe, I think you gave some great examples of both the benefits and the challenges of using customer data for marketing. I like the way you gave some tools to help with customer data and use this to improve your business. I also like how you gave some tips for overcoming the challenges. I think a CRM system is so important for any business today to capture the data correctly, segment it correctly and use it to contact the customers correctly. Great blog, well done.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ailbhe, you have highlighted so many benefits to using customer data, target marketing, increasing revenue etc. A super thing customer data allows us to do in the hospitality industry is welcome a guest by name. Relating to customers individually "offline" as a result of "online" data collection is key!
ReplyDeleteAnother great read Ailbhe, highlighting the challenges from the hospitality industry really makes you put into perspective with a pre covid view on a lack of resources. This describes a genuine concern of key knowledge and stats not being processed correctly hence the evaluating of a number of sources is key. looking forward to the next installment :)
